How to keep cut fruit fresh and cold while entertaining

It's entertaining season again, and while the weather is still pretty mild in most states and territories, it's getting warmer. Coronavirus restrictions are also lifting in parts of the country, plus daylight savings has started in some areas.

With the warmer weather comes the challenge of keeping food fresh while entertaining guests. It also sees delicious, in-season fruits hit our local supermarkets, such as mangoes, berries and a summer favourite, watermelon.

There's nothing more delicious than a slice of crisp, sweet watermelon, and one woman has shared her trick for keeping the summer fruit cold and fresh for hours on TikTok.

In a video shared by @athome.with.you, we see the woman, Veronica, fill a large aluminum tray with water and place it in the freezer hours before her guests arrive.

When it's time to serve, she removes the aluminium tray from the freezer. She then slices up the watermelon and arranges it on a platter, which she sits directly on top of the frozen water tray.

Veronica assures viewers her hack will keep the watermelon cold for hours.

It doesn't just work on watermelon — it can be used for any foods you wish to remain cold while entertaining, including vegetables and dips as well as cheese and fruit platters.

You can also use it for salads which you have pre-prepared ahead of the main meal being served including barbeque foods.

To fancy things up a bit, you can always try a watermelon 'cake' instead, which sees hosts removing the skin from the watermelon, covering it in whipped cream and decorating it just like a cake.
