Bridesmaid accused of trying to 'upstage' the bride with drastic changes to her dress

A bridesmaid has laughed off accusations she was trying to "upstage" the bride by making major changes to her dress just two days before her friend's wedding.

The maid shared a video of her "frumpy" green gown before she began "transforming" it into something "less ugly".

In a series of videos shared to TikTok, user Brittney Rae revealed how she would overhaul the $300 frock.

She showed off the original wrap-style floor-length gown, which featured a plunging neckline.

Brittney also revealed two sketches with ideas on how she wanted the dress to look after her makeover.

"I had to completely deconstruct it first," she said.

"I was a little stressed. If I mess up I have nothing to wear and the bride will KILL ME."

Brittney - who appears to be handy with a sewing machine - then got to work changing the gown into something she believed was far more impressive.

Her new design - shared in a follow up video - revealed the dress to be a shorter midi length with cap sleeves and an even lower neckline.

Even though Brittney appeared to be happy with the final result, some of her followers accused her of having ulterior motives.

"Don't try to upstage," on TikTok user said. "We can tell what you're doing."

While another wrote: "Imagine thinking you're the main character someone's wedding."

Brittney hit back, denying she was trying to steal the limelight from her friend.

"If I was trying to upstage a bride at her own wedding, I would have to do better than a homemade green dress," she said.

And it appears the bride was more than happy with the end result.

Brittney later shared photos from the wedding, showing her and the bride smiling together after the "bridesmaid dress saga".
