Fancy a taste of the festive season without the hours it takes to bake and assemble a gingerbread house?

A baker has won over online critics for her "heavenly" two-minute gingerbread mug hack, in time for Christmas.

Instagram chef Laura Nightingale, known by her 34,000 Instagram followers as @cakeontherun, posted a quick and easy recipe for steamed gingerbread pudding earlier this week, and the decadent clip quickly went viral.

Nightingale says the delicious treat is made in the microwave using basic ingredients that you probably already have lying around at home.

The easy Christmas dessert can also be made vegan (using dairy-free butter and a plant-based milk) as it doesn't contain any eggs. You can view the full recipe here.

The chef serves the warm dish with ice-cream, but you can use yoghurt or cream as well. Watch it being made in the mesmerising clip below.

It's not the only festive recipe to go viral in recent days, with TV chef Gordon Ramsay's 2018 turkey bacon hack going viral once again in the lead-up to Christmas.

The genius cooking tip involves covering the driest parts of the bird — i.e. the breast — with bacon, to ensure it stays moist, and gets an additional flavour hit from the bacon pieces.
