Australia's best supermarket vanilla ice cream has been crowned, and the winner is a surprisingly affordable home brand that sells for just $6.50 per litre.
Choice has named Coles Irresistible Vanilla Bean as the best of 25 brands that were tested, scoring a 91 per cent Choice Expert Rating.
"Our experts praised it for its creamy texture, pleasant vanilla aroma, and smoothness," Choice Editorial Director Mark Serrels said.

In second place, Aldi Indulge Vanilla Bean Gourmet Ice Cream, which earned a score of 89 per cent.
It was also praised for its "nice vanilla aroma, creaminess" and "great balance in flavour and fat". This sells for $5.99 per litre.
Taking out third place, Norco Cape Byron Ultimate Vanilla, sold at Woolworths and IGA, which scored 85 per cent. This one is pricier, at $10 per litre.

In second place is Aldi Indulge Vanilla Bean Gourmet Ice Cream. Choice
The experts said it had a "strong vanilla aroma, nice balance of vanilla flavour and sweetness level, creamy mouthfeel" and concluded it was a "very nice standard typical vanilla ice cream" that was "smooth" with "no iciness in texture".
In fourth place, Woolworths Vanilla Bean Indulgent Ice Cream, which sells for $6.50 per litre, however is currently listed as out of stock until October 10.
This one earned an 81 per cent rating, with the experts saying it had a "nice balanced vanilla flavour and sweetness level, pleasant but mild vanilla aroma and mild vanilla flavour, good texture with vanilla bean seeds evident" and "balanced flavour".
At the bottom of the pack, Woolworths Vanilla, which earned only a 43 per cent Choice Expert Rating.
Norco products were hit and miss.
The Cape Byron Ultimate Vanilla impressed judges and achieved recommended status, but the same brand's Classic Vanilla option was among the lowest scorers.

The most expensive products came from the brands Bulla, Connoisseur, Elato, Haagen-Dazs, Pana Organic and Sara Lee, but none of these pricey products received scores to brag about.
The Haagen-Dazs Vanilla, which costs $13.50 for a tiny 457ml tub, only scored only scored 54 per cent for taste.
This was way below the top products, which all score over 80 per cent and cost as little as 60 cents per 100mL.
Peters Original Vanilla, part of many an Australia's childhood, landed in the middle of the pack at 12th, with a Choice Expert Rating of 64 per cent.

Choice taste-tested 25 vanilla ice creams from popular brands, including Bulla, Connoisseur, Haagen-Dazs, Peters and Streets.
The Experts blind-tasted each vanilla ice cream sample and assessed them based on appearance, aroma, flavour and texture.
The Choice Expert Rating is made up of the taste test score as rated by our judges, and is recommended by achieving a score of 80 per cent or more.
