Your favourite Easter treat now comes in booze form at Aldi

Those abstaining for Lent, look away now — because your favourite Easter treat will soon be available in booze form at Aldi supermarkets.

The German retailer has announced the launch of a new Hot Cross Bun Gin Liqueur (20% ABV) for $19.99, promising the fruity, spicy taste of the popular Easter bread in a glass.

News of the Manchester Drinks Co release has already sparked a frenzy online, despite not hitting Aldi shelves until Wednesday, February 24.

Facebook group Aussie As shared news of the Easter-themed drink with fans earlier today, sparking hundreds of excited comments ranging from "Found our Easter drink" to "Time to get in the Easter spirit".

"This is my type of Hot Cross Buns!!!" one critic wrote, with another agreeing: "Is this love at first sight?"

Promising a rich blend of spicy gin, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and ginger flavours, it may be just the thing to sip or throw into a cocktail as we exit summer next month.

"We are proud of the quality and affordable products we bring customers, but also the innovative and unique range we can offer Australians – and the Hot Cross Bun Gin Liqueur is no exception," said Nicole Higgins, Aldi Australia Shopping Expert.

"Crafted with the traditional spices found in your favourite Easter treat, simply mix with soda, sparkling wine or serve on the rocks."

Ms Higgins suggested teaming the decadent drink with one of Aldi's buns.

"For an extra Easter indulgence, why not pair with ALDI's delicious Specially Selected Traditional Fruit or Brioche Hot Cross Buns for a perfect dessert pairing, available in store now."

Aldi also sells four-packs of Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Buns ($2.99) and Specially Selected Fruit Hot Cross Buns ($2.99).
