Abbie Chatfield blasts Shepard avocados in on-air rant: 'Discontinue them'
Everyone knows the crushing disappointment of picking out an avocado for your salad, only to realise it's as hard as a rock.
It seems former Bachelor star Abbie Chatfield is all too familiar with this experience after the radio host slammed a certain variety of avocado for taking "forever to ripen".
During a fiery segment on her show Hot Nights with Abbie, the 26-year-old fumed about the quality and colour of Shepard avocados, which are in season in Australia from February through May.

"Shepard avocados – they take forever to ripen, and when they do ripen they're still hard," Abbie exclaimed on-air on Wednesday
"They taste like plastic, they're yellow in colour. They're not green!"
A flabbergasted Abbie said she was putting together a salmon bowl for her boyfriend Konrad when she was forced to contend with a Shepard avocado.
"The stupid pip is very hard to get out, the other night I was having a salmon avocado bowl and I had to stoop to the level of the Shepard avocado," she recalled.
"I had to peel the avocado because I couldn't slice it up. So, I got my hands and I was squishing it with my hands.
Shepard avocados are in season in Australia from February through to May.

"My boyfriend came in and said, 'Abbie, what are you doing?' I said, 'Konrad, there's no other options'."
Abbie concluded her rant with a message for Shepard avocado farmers, clarifying that she "loved" them but wanted to see more Hass avocados.
"I love you, but can you please put the energy into something else?" she continued.
"Get a good greenhouse, invest, I'll support you for a good greenhouse that can do a year-round Hass."
She said of Shepard avocados: "Discontinue them."
It seems Abbie's tirade struck a chord with fellow avocado lovers, who took to the comment section of her radio's Instagram to air their grievances with the Shepard variety.
"Took the words right out of my mouth," one woman said. Another added: "Someone finally said it. Shepard must go!"
One lone Shepard avocado defender told Abbie she must have picked out an unripe piece as the variety should be delicious and soft.
She wrote: "A properly ripe shepherd avo is a beautiful experience. They have to be very soft before they're ready!"
