Surprising note left for food delivery driver: 'I shouldn't have even ordered food'

A food delivery worker has been met by a surprise note during a recent job.

The note, which was fastened on the customer's door, read: "I'm very broke. Sorry I cannot afford a tip.

"I shouldn't have even ordered food. Have some candy! Sorry."

The food delivery worker shared a photo of the note and the candy on Reddit.

The candy appears to have been placed in an envelope. There are at least three pieces including a lollipop.

The food delivery worker wrote: "I've been 'door dashing' a while, it has become my primary income during a really hard spot in my life.'

"Tips are normally not that great in my area but it feeds my animals and pays some bills, I accept every order I get because everyone deserves food, food shouldn't be seen as a luxury, who knows what this person is going through maybe that little Taco Bell is exactly what they needed," they continued.

The worker explained: "Maybe they got off a long shift to an empty fridge and spent the last few dollars on something cheap and filling. I've been there personally spending my last dollar on a McDonald's hamburger in times I was too depressed to cook a meal."

They ended their post saying: "My heart aches for them and I hope they were able to eat without feeling guilty, plus I got a $21 order right after this, my biggest tip of all time! But that Door Dash base tip I needed too, so I was grateful for the order regardless."

The food delivery worker's Reddit followers were delighted by his reaction to the note and the candy.

"You are so kind. I was expecting the caption to be annoyed but you are understanding and it's so refreshing to see," one said.

"That mindset is few and far between," another commented. "Keep being great!"

One Redditer said: "That's actually pretty sad, I am glad they got to eat."

"The wholesome DoorDash post we all needed," another said.
