Spellbinding style: The stars of Practical Magic 2 dazzle on the red carpet

Start blending up those midnight margaritas: Practical Magic 2 is finally here, and the red carpet looks so far are, dare we say, spellbinding.

For the Los Angeles premiere of the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 movie, Nicole Kidman embraced a deliciously witchy aesthetic.

The Aussie icon wore a semi-sheer black lace dress from Atelier Versace, complete with a neck scarf. The gown featured a dramatically asymmetrical hemline, with one side reaching the floor and the other skimming her upper thigh.

She was joined, of course, by co-star Sandra Bullock – the pair are reprising their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens – who stood out in a black and white ensemble.

Bullock’s close-fitting velvet gown was elevated with a deep V neckline and a crisp white oversized collar and cuffs.

The new generation of Practical Magic stars also leaned into the whimsy with their red carpet looks.

Maisie Williams and Joey King, who have joined the cast as Bullock’s on-screen daughters Kylie and Antonia, have developed a co-star style of their own in the weeks leading to the sequel’s release.

For the LA event, Williams went with a bold graphic leather dress, featuring artwork of two bird skeletons.

King, meanwhile, wore a black and chartreuse gown with an exaggerated shelf-like waistline.

The dress featured black lace over the bright yellow, with solid black details at the hem, bustline and running down both sides of her body.

The Los Angeles event came days after the movie’s first major premiere in London on August 26.

Hitting the red carpet at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, Kidman and Bullock both wore strapless floor-length gowns with thigh-high splits, though the similarities ended there.

Bullock was decked out in leopard print, her striking Givenchy gown featuring a large bow at the waist and a corseted bodice.

The bold gown made its debut during Paris Fashion Week back in March.

Kidman, meanwhile, sparkled in a sea-foam green sequinned Chanel gown with gold and pearl chains draped across the neckline and shoulders.

The Aussie screen icon allowed the gown to have the spotlight, wearing minimal jewellery and her hair down.

Meanwhile, King embraced the sheer trend that’s dominated red carpets over the past two years in a lemon-hued custom Miu Miu gown.

The floaty floor-length design was dotted with sparkling 3D floral details, with King’s yellow Miu Miu underwear and matching shoes becoming a key part of the outfit as they peeked through the sheer fabric.

Williams opted for a more dramatic colour palette, wearing a deep red Ellie Misner gown that showed off her back tattoos.

The dress, which at first glance looks like a top and skirt, was a nod to Bullock’s red carpet look from a Forces of Nature premiere in 1999.

Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who are returning as the eccentric Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet Owens in the sequel, also reunited on the red carpet.

Wiest teamed an elegant black gown with black specs, while Channing teamed a flowing navy blue suit with a pale yellow blouse.

The premiere marked the Grease icon’s first red carpet appearance in two years, coming weeks after she revealed she was “happy living as a recluse” following the death of her partner, Daniel.

“The pattern of my life shifted, so I shifted my life from Maine,” she wrote in an essay for The Times.

“I’ve lived alone since I lost Daniel and I’m happy being a recluse.”

The ladies stole the show, but there was also a stylish appearance from Xolo Maridueña, a newcomer to the cast.

Maridueña, who plays the love interest of King’s character, wore a black suit with some eye-catching details – floral embroidery on the blazer and ruffled cuffs on his white shirt.

The Parenthood star finished the look with a sparkling brooch pinned to his collar and a pair of dangling pearl earrings.
