Supermodel's wild transformation brings Met Gala red carpet to a standstill

If there's one thing Heidi Klum will do, it's present a jaw-dropping look and her latest appearance on the Met Gala red carpet is no exception.
The 52-year-old supermodel stepped out in exactly what we have come to expect from her, a surrealist and animated ensemble for the central theme; "Fashion is Art."
The custom look by Mike Marino appeared to draw inspiration from works such as the Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sammartino and the Veiled Vestal by Raffaele Monti.

Looking decidedly statuesque, the foam and latex hybrid allowed for limited movement, though still maintained the exact impression of a stationery marble monument.
Expertly crafted, the marbling details appeared to freeze the star in time; even as she continued to ascend the steps.
When asked by supermodel Ashley Graham where she drew her inspiration from for the noteworthy look, Klum revealed she'd started "at the Met."

"I went walking around the Met. And Raffaele Monti, he's done most of the sculptures from the 1800s," Klum explained.
"So I looked, and I just thought it looked so beautiful, and it's all marble – but how can you make that with fabric?"
Specifically, Klum cited Monti's Veiled Vestal as her primary inspiration for the bold look.
The sculpture in question was commissioned by William Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire during an 1846 trip to Naples.
It is a representation of a Vestal Virgin, the priestesses of the Ancient Roman goddess Vesta.
Known far and wide for her decidedly eccentric Halloween looks, Klum evidently took this year's theme as yet another opportunity to flex her status as the unrivalled queen of costuming.
The "Fashion is Art" motif lent itself to this title with ease; intended to elevate clothing to living art with a particular focus on the dressed body as a canvas.
As highlighted by Vogue, it emphasises that garments are structural masterpieces, blurring the lines between fashion, sculpture and painting.

The move was hardly unexpected from the star, having appeared in increasingly elaborate and outrageous looks for her annual, star-studded Halloween parties.
