The surprising hack that keeps dogs relaxed when you leave them home alone
A dog trainer has revealed how to keep dogs from getting anxious when we leave them home alone.
In a TikTok Sarah Hodgson answered the question "when leaving a dog home alone is it better to leave them in silence, leave the TV on or leave some type of music on?"
She said calming music is the most relaxing for dogs at home on their own and gave some suggestions.

"Studies show that dogs are most soothed by calming music—think Bob Marley reggae, James Taylor, or peaceful piano or spa tunes," she wrote in the video caption.
Hodgson added that the TV isn't a great idea because it's "boisterous", alerts the dog to the fact you're not there and any animal sounds in commercials can spook them.
But silence is even worse for them because they'll hear noises from outside and become more anxious.
"So, next time you leave, set the vibe with some relaxing music to help them chill until you're back," she said.

In the comments dog owners revealed the music and TV shows they leave on for their dogs when they leave the house and there are some surprising answers.
"My dog barks if I don't leave The Eras Tour movie on," said the owner of a dog that's clearly a Swiftie.
"My dog likes Skrillex," a man said naming the electronic dance music artist.
"My dog loves Paw Patrol," an owner wrote, as did two others.
"My dog is a fan of Murder She Wrote," a woman revealed.
"My dog watches Family Ties if I'm gone more than 2 hours. Less than 2, it's crescendo radio," another said.
And in a move that would make David Hasselhoff proud a woman said, "I always leave Baywatch on."

"I leave it on Dog TV on YouTube, which plays calming music for dogs," one said.
"I've been doing Peaceful Piano & classical music for my dog since she was a puppy & she immediately relaxes whenever it's on. Like, stops what she's doing to lay down & listen," posted an owner.
"I found with our English springer spaniel. He enjoys spa music, and I do find that it's very calming for him," another commented.
So perhaps like a lot of things with our dogs, calming music/sounds are very individual but they do help chill them out until we return.
