Teach them alone time
Although it may be tempting to have our adorable puppies follow us everywhere or carry them throughout the day, this can lead to over-dependence and potential anxiety when left alone.
Start by gradually exposing your puppy to short periods of alone time. Begin with just a few minutes and gradually increase the duration over time. Use positive reinforcement techniques like chew toys or easy puzzle toys to create a positive association with alone time.
By easing them into it, your puppy will learn that being alone is a normal part of their routine.

Create a safe space

A playpen or crate can provide your puppy with a safe and secure space when you cannot supervise them directly. Allocate specific periods each day for your puppy to experience alone time in their safe space, preferably after play sessions.
Ensure they have had an opportunity to relieve themselves prior and offer them a safe chew toy to help them settle.
Don't leave your puppy alone for too long, you don't want your puppy to feel lonely and isolated. You want them to be content and relaxed in your absence, so always provide something like chew toys or lick mats to help keep them occupied.

Departures and returns
Do not make a big fuss when you leave or excessive excitement on return; always keep your comings and goings low-key. Minimising the significance of these moments will help your puppy understand that departures and returns are routine and not a cause for distress.
Give them a treat or safe chew toy each time you leave your puppy to make your departure a positive experience for them. Mentally stimulating activities, such as puzzle toys will redirect their focus from your absence and keep them entertained.
