Dear Dr Katrina: 'How do I crate train my dog?'

This question comes from Fiona who wants to know how to crate train her dog.

Crate training dogs is similar to training a puppy, but is easier to do during that puppy stage.
The key, Dr Katrina says, is to create positive associations with the crate.
"So with the door open you toss treats into the crate, you feed your dog meals in the crate, you give them chew toys in the crate, you get a favourite mat or something that your dog is comfortable lying on, you pop that in the crate and ask them to go into the crate in return for a reward," she explained.
"It's about setting up that positive association from the start and building up the time very, very gradually."
