An Aldi buy has pet owners in a frenzy over just how adorable and warm it will make their dogs this winter.

The $4.99 dog pom pom beanie comes in blue, green and pink colours and small and medium sizes.

A dachshund owner showed off the cute find in a TikTok video on her account @dedikatedlifestyle, prompting other dog owners to share their excitement.

"I fear I really outdid myself with this one," she captioned the clip.

The shopper purchased the pink and the green beanies for her pooches and showed just how gorgeous they looked on.

Those who watched the video were keen to get them too.

"I just want one for my cane corso," a woman said.

Of course, all dog owners know most pooches aren't big fans of wearing clothes and accessories and several wondered how long the beanies would stay on for.

"My dachshund would never wear it, he'd probably like to chew it though," one commented.

"My dog absolutely LOATHED ME after putting this one," an owner said.

"Aww my dashy would rip it to shreds before getting it on him," another posted.

Meanwhile, owners of large dogs were disappointed by the size range available.

"I bought a few and they were just one size but they're quite stretchy so I'm hoping it'll fit my Kelpie!" a shopper said.

"My xl Labrador never fits anything," an owner commented.

And it's possible Aldi missed an opportunity to expand the range.

"I'm disappointed that these aren't for humans," a woman said.

As for whether beanies for dogs are actually necessary, much like with jackets it can depend on the breed of dog and how cold it actually is, but a coat is probably more important.

Jackets and coats are beneficial for senior dogs, which have sluggish circulation and therefore find it difficult to regulate their body temperature.

They are also important for dog breeds like dachshunds, which have no undercoat, whippets, because of their short fur and lean build and Chihuahuas because of their small size.

Vet Dr Katrina Warren shared her tips to make sure you get your dog winter gear they'll be comfortable in.

"The coat should be easy to put on, remove and wash. It should fit snugly but not restrict your dog's movement. Remember to remove the coat once indoors to prevent overheating. This practical approach ensures your dog's comfort and safety," she wrote in an article for 9honey Pets.

And if you're not sure whether your dog is actually cold, Dr Katrina has an easy way to tell.

"If the tips of their ears are cold that's an indication that your dog is cold – it's a really good tip, actually," she said.
