'Had to say something': Grandma's advice for when you don't agree with your adult kid's parenting choices

There's nothing quite like watching your parents become grandparents, especially for the first time. 

However, it's safe to say there will be plenty of disagreements or differences in opinion when it comes to how you are raising your kids.

One grandma has some advice for other grandparents out there. 

TikTok user @mommom.maria, who frequently posts about being a grandma, shared her own story after not agreeing with her granddaughter's bottle while babysitting recently.

"If I don't agree with every little decision that my daughter makes for the baby, I usually don't say anything," she started the video.

"Sometimes I can't help myself, and when it came to this I couldn't help myself, I had to say something."

Maria explained her granddaughter is 13 months old and has two bottles a day, one in the morning and one at night, but it's what she drinks the milk out of that confused her. 

"My husband and I were babysitting the other night and my daughter said to put her milk before bed in this," she said, holding up a sippy cup with a straw.

Maria didn't think it was OK, seeing as her granddaughter is still a baby, but admitted it's not her decision. 

"I'm not the decision maker. I'm not the mum: I'm the Mum-Mum, the privileged Mum-Mum that gets to babysit her," she explained. 

She gave Prue the sippy cup and she drank her milk with no issues. 

"So I guess my daughter was right, and that's really what I wanted to say to the other grandmothers: You don't have to agree, but you have to do it," she finished.

The video has hit close to home for a lot of people who loved that Maria respected her daughter's wishes and has been watched close to 100k times. 

"Protect this sweet woman at all costs," commented one person. 

Another replied, "Oh how I wish my MIL (mother in law) was like you." 

"You are so emotionally mature about it. I'm so proud of you showing what respecting your children's right to parent looks like!" wrote another person. 

One woman also shared the way she approached this sort of issue and replied, "I told my Mom and MIL this 'I'm not saying you're wrong with how you chose to do things with your kids. I just do things differently.' Helped a lot!"
