'My daughter's special toy has gone missing and I can't remember the last time I was this stressed'

My husband and I have spent the last two days turning our place upside down.

Why, you ask? We're looking for Teddy.

Teddy, the snuggly soft flat toy our daughter has formed quite the connection with over her little life so far, and he's missing.

She's even been walking around with us, calling out, "Teddy, where are you?" with no luck.

We have no idea where he's gone, or if she's just hidden him somewhere in the house, but it's becoming a rather stressful situation and I want this to serve as a warning to other parents.

If your child has a special toy or comforter they cannot get enough of, buy two. Hell, buy three or four and shove them in a cupboard for safe keeping – because you probably will need a backup.

She goes to daycare four days a week, so we have one teddy who is for "school" and another one at home, meaning when one of them gets covered in food, or inevitably gets left there for a sleepover accidentally, we have one at home – which means she can happily go to sleep at night.

When we first tried to get her to take it, I had been wearing it for days, shoved under my top in an attempt to make it smell like me – thanks to a tip from one of my good friends and it worked.

You see, we have two - but that's in case one of them got lost. But now what do we do? Supplied/Amy Lyall

Since then, Teddy has never been far from her.

Every sleep, every car trip, every melt-down, Teddy is there and always helps.

For days we have looked everywhere, in every bag, in the car, under the couch, everything has been moved, daycare is even on the lookout in case teddy turns up.

Thankfully we bought teddy on a whim from a shop around the corner when she was a baby (hoping it might help with sleep), so I went back today to try and get another one so we had a backup.

"Sorry but the company that makes them has gone out of business, I can't get them anymore," the woman working in the store told me.

The only thing to come out of my mouth was "f--k".

A few months ago I thought about grabbing another one, just in case, but then went 'oh, no, two is enough'.

Well, I was very wrong, and I don't want someone else to make this same mistake.

If your child suddenly very deeply connects to a specific comforter, please buy spares.

I'm now absolutely dreading the day our last Teddy goes missing, and praying we can find the spare soon – and hoping some serious hours of scouring the internet are sure to bring one up, right?
