'My body is not here to be appealing': Model Iskra Lawrence defends sharing home birth video

Model Iskra Lawrence has defended posting her home birth video to Instagram.

The British model posted a video documenting the birth of her second child, a daughter, on October 10, sharing the miracle with her followers.

And while many praised Lawrence for her strength, others had a different reaction – and she's now addressed those critics in a powerful message.

"Birth is not shameful," the 34-year-old wrote in the caption. "It's the most beautiful, primal and powerful experience l've ever had. During labour I have never more alive, more connected to a higher power or able to surrender fully to something bigger than me.

"My body is not here to be appealing or appropriate for the uncomfortable men who made those comments on my home birth video.

"And I hope you know we never need to dim our light, apologise for being bold or make decisions based on others opinions. I'm honoring the power of my redemption birth by sharing it with the millions of you who needed to see a positive peaceful birth and know that you can have one too.

"Showing you what a real home birth looks like in case you've never seen one (I hadn't until I found some on here) and reminding all the mamas who have done this that you are a literal superhero. And for those mamas with angel babies so are you."

Lawrence shares her two children with songwriter Philip Payne, having welcomed their first child, a son, in April 2020.

She recently walked the runway for a swimsuit campaign during Miami Swim Week while pregnant, but soon after, became the subject of a barrage of "body-shaming" from "hundreds" of internet trolls.

Lawrence wasn't having any of it, and took to Instagram to call out the negative commentary.

The model shared a carousel of pictures from the runway show – and the comments she received – to show the level of trolling she received.

"Imagine body-shaming a stranger on the internet," a caption on the first image read.

Across the second image, she wrote: "That's 6 months pregnant walking in Miami Swim Week more proud of her body than ever after TTC (trying to conceive)."
