Why a 'Christmas morning box' is the survival kit every family needs

Christmas morning is a magical time with young kids, but it's also absolute chaos too. 

If you're a parent it means the weeks and months of planning are finally over and you can watch them rip into every gift with pure joy and wonder. 

But there's one thing you can do to make the morning run so much smoother and, honestly, you'll be giving yourself a pat on the back on December 25 for having this prepped with plenty of time to relax with your coffee.

Every home needs a Christmas morning box. 

A Christmas morning box – or, as some mums are calling it, a 'Christmas morning survival kit' – will take the stress out of trying to find a pair of scissors to help get new toys out or rummaging through drawers for a packet of batteries. 

I came across the idea on social media, and I love it. 

The original post reads: "Does anyone else have a Christmas morning box? I always put one together so I'm not running around on Christmas morning trying to find scissors or batteries. Mine has scissors, batteries, mini screwdrivers and bin bags."

The items are all stashed together in a little clear tub. 

It's actually so smart because it means if your kids want you to open something for them to play with immediately, you can do it.

Opening the back of a toy to be able to put batteries in? No worries at all – you've got the screwdriver ready. 

The best part is, no one has to leave the room to go and find things, which often means someone misses out on something, and gives you more time to spend together in the chaos that is Christmas morning.

The bin bags will also save you so much time cleaning up, too, by having one on hand.

Another thing you could add is a few snap lock bags in different sizes, perfect for grouping pieces for Barbies, LEGO, or other new toys that come with heaps of accessories and bits – which is going to make life so much easier for you.

In previous years I've kept an empty washing basket nearby, which has helped for throwing scrunched up wrapping paper into – making it easy to take to the bin.

But it also doubles as an easy way to group presents together and take them off to bedrooms or tuck them away to clear some space, without having to organise or do too much to take you away from the festivities.

And my hot tip: if you're visiting relatives on Christmas Day, take all of the gifts in a washing basket. This way you've got something to put the gifts you receive – especially if you have young kids – in, making it easier to pack the car when you head home.
