These are the baby names most at risk of going extinct in 2026
When it comes to baby names it seems like people are always talking about trends and the top names.
But on the other end of the scale there are less popular names which are dramatically sliding down the charts, and some of these are even at risk of going extinct.
New data from BabyCentre has looked at which names in the top 1,000 have had the biggest fall from 2024 to 2025 and there are four main trends of names that are really falling out of favour with parents.

We all know trends come and go, but when it comes to the names that parents-to-be are steering clear of there are four trends that are steering clear of.
The four trends of names falling in popularity
Surprisingly one of the trends that's losing popularity is unique spellings of names.
For years parents added a touch of personality or something different to names, opting for different spelling but it seems as though non-traditional spellings are out, with names like Charleigh and Alivia plummeting in popularity.

Place names are becoming less popular, with names like London and Dallas falling down the charts for girls and Boston for boys.
Boy names ending in a 'y' are also falling fast, with Huxley, Corey and Harry all on their way down the ranks.
Parents are also steering away from names that start with D and K for both boys and girls, with names like Danielle and Kinley down for girls, with Dominic and Karim down for boys.

The data also looked at the 50 names for both boys and girls which have seen the most dramatic drop in the ranks.
These are the names which are most at risk of going extinct, because they're dropping so quickly and dramatically from the top charts.
