It's official - the classics aren't going anywhere: New baby name report reveals parents are still loving these names

When it comes to naming babies, one thing is clear, parents are still loving the classics. 

For years now names like Olivia, Amelia, Noah and Liam have dominated the Top 10 names and according to the latest report from Baby Centre, they're not going anywhere. 

The report for 2024 has revealed some surprising insights into names, but the big one being in the last 12 months, there's barely been any movement in the top names for boys and girls. 

For the boys, the top seven are exactly the same as last year. In order, that's Noah, Liam, Oliver, Elijah, Mateo, Lucas, and Levi, but further down the list to round out the Top 10, Ezra jumped to 8, Asher moved up two places to land at 9 and Leo fell two places to land at 10. 

And it was similar for the girls, Olivia once again took the top spot while Amelia and Emma switched spaces, rounding out the top three. 

The biggest move came from Ellie, which shot into ninth place for the first time, rising from number 15 in 2023.

But while the top end of the list all looks very similar, there's some interesting things happening lower down. 

Sarah has had a place in the top 100 for over 60 years, but not in 2024. 

The name has finally been pushed out and this year landed at 108, while Eva, which is now 105 and Jasmine Number 122, also dropped off. 

For boys, Kayden dropped off to Number 101, Dominic is now Number 113, and Aaron moved down to 120 were the big shifts for boy names.

But while these names were bumped out, some other new monikers hit the top 100 for the first time. 

Walker came in at number 79, Bennett, at 84 and Adriel at 100, all made their debut on the list.

While Ember and Oakley, at 90 and 96 respectively, made the top 100 for the first time for girls.

Parents are definitely leaning into traditional, classic names when it comes to naming their little ones and it's a trend Aussie professional baby name consultant Michelle Casey has been seeing a lot of.

"Many of these names have sat within the top rankings for many many years running. We seem to be returning to things that feel more grounded and familiar. Classic, timeless names have a built in legacy yet still feel so relevant and fresh," she told 9Honey Parenting.

And the celebrity influence, with stars like Justin and Hailey Bieber, or Mandy Moore, or Sofia Richie, who all went with really classic names for their new bubs, it's a trend she's predicting will stay.

"We have gone from the super modern, edgy, invented names and come full-circle back to names like Jack and Louise," she said.

"The general public also love seeing a name that is a well known classic used by a celebrity."
