We – just like everyone else – can't get enough of baby names.

Mums and dads-to-be are almost spoiled for choice now with all of the emerging trends and top names from around the country offering plenty of inspiration.

But for those who want to be ahead of the curve in 2026, there are two styles of names baby name expert Colleen Slagen is tipping to be big.

A baby name expert has revealed two new trends of names are tipped to be big in 2026.  Getty

One is a trend that's been gaining popularity in recent years and isn't going anywhere: vintage names.

Slagen noted parents are looking towards vintage names with a modern twist, giving a nod to the past but adding a bit more fun.

For some names, the 100-year rule applies, meaning every 100 years they return to popularity, but for some it's simply the vintage vibes that are bringing them back.

But another theme Slagen expects to become popular this year is "granola baby" names.

Now, we're not talking about naming your son or daughter something like 'honey almond crunch' – rather, these names are inspired by nature.

Granola names have a link to nature, and have a sort of rustic and earthy feel to them.

"This can be seen in names such as Coast, Juniper, and Fern," Slagen said.

Cottage-core is another style of names Slagen expects will be big this year.

The names have an ethereal vibe, romanticising life – think quaint countryside living and wildflowers, cosy houses and a lot of nature.

Slagen believes names like Edie, Hattie and Percy will be popular choices with parents looking to embrace this trend.

The cottage-core theme also includes a lot of really lovely boy names, which a lot of parents will admit can be harder to find than girl names.
