Baby name experts share the names they'd never give their own children
Naming babies is such a delicate art that even the experts have a difficult time.
Baby name consultants Colleen Slagen and Jessie Paquette have shared the names they, for one reason or another, hated.
Sharing on their podcast Name 911, the pair shared their most hated baby names and the inexplicable reasons why.

Many of the names on the list had the pair divided.
One is Porter, with Paquette adoring the name while Slagen had an unexplainable distaste for it. As the name is originally a surname, it gives a "peppy" effect and could even result in the nickname "porter potty".
Paquette mentioned the name August, as she is "so tired of it to the point that I hate it." Her first-born child was born in August, and many of the mothers surrounding her were eager to use the name.
"I need no one else to use it, I'm so sick of it," she said, adding, "I started really picking up on TikTok and everyone was talking about August, whether they actually finalised and used it or not.

"Even if it's not overly popular, everyone has talked about it at least once. It's on everyone's list."
Another trendy name Slagen hates is Maverick, because it has become too "gimmicky" and she hates "what Maverick has become", whereas Paquette hates Beau" though she understands the appeal.
"Beau, when you're not of, like, upper class, it's giving, 'my cousin Beau'," Paquette said.
"It's like the cousin that you're like, 'Oh my god, Beau's coming?' I think just my background and my perspective, it's always going to give lowbrow."
One Aussie fan chimed in on their Instagram comments, sharing, "Beau is such an Aussie surfer name, super loved here!! 😂👏 It was also on my list at one point."

Other boy names the pair are not fans of include Keegan and Griffin.
When it comes to girl names, the pair surprisingly hate a lot of the most popular baby names.
Olivia and Sophia are on their hit list as they are too overused. Slagen also hates an alternative to Olivia that many use, Lydia.
Though they sound similar, Slagen says the name gives a totally different vibe.
"I just think 'Crazy Aunt Lydia' and I just can't get past that," she shared.
Paquette also included Eliana on her list as she thought it was "trying too hard."
For reference, Slagen is a mum of three to Rory, six, Janie, four, and George, one, while Paquette is mum to Pierce Elio, two, and Darcy Dove, eight months.
The pair discussed the normally contentious topic on their podcast because they wanted to open up this conversation and give their reasoning for their preferences in order to normalise having differing opinions.
"There are names that I borderline almost named my child that actually give Colleen a visceral reaction, and vice versa," Paquette shared.
"You might not like all the names I chose for my kids, and that's OK," Slagen added.

She told Today, "Someone not liking your baby name is like someone just having a different interior decorating style than you.
"You might not like farmhouse, but it doesn't really have anything to do with you because you don't have to live there."
Slagen's advice is to expecting parents is to be sure that they love whatever name they end up choosing because "you're the one that has to say that name literally every second of your life for the next 50 years."
