Elton John may have just received his invite to the Royal Wedding

Well, it sounds like Sir Elton John's invite to the Royal Wedding has just arrived in the post.

The 70-year-old musician, who currently has a residency in Las Vegas has just cancelled two shows, which happens to be the weekend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

"Due to scheduling conflict, Elton John has rescheduled the Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 performances of 'The Million Dollar Piano' at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to Sunday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 16," The Colosseum at Caesars Palace announced in a press release.  

"All other performances of 'The Million Dollar Piano' remain as scheduled," the release added.

It was supposed to be the final weekend of his residency, which will now finish on May 17, according to statement.

Those fans with tickets to the cancelled dates will get first dibs on the new tickets, with exclusive pre-sale arranged.

Recently, Sir Elton announced that after almost 50 years of touring, he will retire after one final world tour, to take place over a three-year period.

At the time he announced his upcoming retirement, the musician told UK TV host Lorraine Kelly that he'd like to attend the wedding and recalled the moment Harry told him he was smitten with Meghan.

"I spent some time with him in Sicily last summer and I could tell he was totally in love.

"He didn't discuss it much, but he said 'I'm in love'," Sir Elton said.

He also told Lorraine, "both of those boys seem to be ecstatically happy" and their mother would be incredibly proud of them both.

"She would be proud of her boys and they're doing a great job and I'm proud of them too."

Sir Elton mentioned he would be keen to attend Prince Harry's wedding but said he didn't have any information on it and acknowledged his Vegas commitments.

The singer and the young royal have been particularly close as they continue to raise awareness and funds for AIDS and HIV research - a cause close to Princess Diana's heart.

Sir Elton has been a very close friend of the family, through his relationship with Princess Diana and famously sang at her funeral.

He also attended Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.
