Children horrified as Rapunzel animatronic mauled by birds at Disney park days after viral Olaf malfunction

It has not been a great week for the animatronics over at Disney's theme parks.

Just days after Olaf toppled and fell in Disneyland Paris, attendees at Disney Sea in Tokyo were left horrified as the beloved character Rapunzel was mauled by birds.

Spectators watched an animatronic Rapunzel lean out of the window and sing before two crows grabbed tufts of her golden hair in their mouths.

The crowd yelled in surprise as they watched the dramatic scene play out, all while trying to enjoy themselves on a ride.

The video was captioned, "Onlookers horrified as a couple of crows helped themselves to Rapunzel's hair at Tokyo DisneySea today."

According to PopBase, the animatronic was later taken down.

Fans flocked to the comments section to report on the sorry sight.

"Nature always finds a way to steal the show! Those clever crows are just letting their hair down and turning Rapunzel's locks into a cozy nest. Talk about a fairy tale twist!" said one.

"Disney spent millions on Rapunzel's hair... and two crows turned it into free nesting material Nature wins," another added.

"Those crows did what Gothel never could – actually took the hair," one joked.

"That is such a weirdly specific image two crows just casually snacking on Rapunzel's hair like it's a string cheese. Guess the animatronic was a little too realistic for the local wildlife. Wonder if they'll add some anti-crow measures when they bring it back," one fan said.

"What is going on in disney land?" one fan remarked, sharing photos of Olaf's unfortunate incident from earlier in the week.

The short seven-second video of the moment Olaf – a much-loved character from the Frozen film franchise – froze and collapsed went viral just one day earlier, and is sure to become a much-used meme in the future.

The video began with a crowd of people surrounding a small animatronic character depicting Olaf.

The character performed for the delighted crowd, waving its arms, nodding its head, moving its mouth and blinking its eyes before it seemed to freeze.

After a second or two, Olaf fell backwards as the crowd screamed. Olaf then suffered one final indiginity – his carrot nose popped out and landed on the ground less than a metre away.

A Disneyland employee dressed in costume then kneeled beside Olaf before the video ended.

Some social media users reported it was only the character's second day in the job.

Another took to TikTok to write that they had queued for 30 minutes to see Olaf before he collapsed.

Many people praised Olaf's comic genius. "The natural comedic timing of this is the best evidence I've ever seen for God existing," wrote one. "There isn't a funnier way he could've fallen over," said another.

In good news, videos reportedly showing the same animatronic Olaf on a boat in Disneyland have since emerged, with many breathing a sigh of relief that he was OK.
