'Olaf just died': Moment animatronic character collapses at Disneyland Paris

It is the happiest place on earth, where children's dreams come true – and sometimes even their nightmares.

A day at Disneyland Paris saw children's laughter turn to screams when an animatronic character malfunctioned and collapsed, with hilarious results.

A short seven-second video of the moment Olaf – a much-loved character from the Frozen film franchise – froze and then collapsed at Disneyland Paris has since gone viral and is sure to become a much-used meme in the future.

Olaf is one of the integral characters from the 2013 film Frozen. The lovable snowman, who comes to life with the help of Elsa, has sticks for arms, twigs for hair and a carrot nose that sometimes gets lost.

The video begins with a crowd of people surrounding a small animatronic character depicting Olaf.

The character performs for the delighted crowd, waving its arms, nodding its head, moving its mouth and blinking its eyes before it seems to freeze.

After a second or two, Olaf falls backwards as the crowd screams. Olaf then suffers one final indiginity – his carrot nose pops out and lands on the ground less than a metre away.

A Disneyland employee dressed in costume then kneels beside Olaf before the video ends.

A video by TikTok user @magictourclub also showed the aftermath – two Disney employees carrying the animatronic character away.

Some social media users reported it was only the character's second day in the job. Another took to TikTok to write that they had queued for 30 minutes to see Olaf before he collapsed.

An X account with the user name @ikbenwezz appears to be the original poster. He shared the video one day ago with the comment: "The exact moment when Josh left Paris this weekend".

He has since reshared the video with the comment, "When your Twitter notifications explode".

The video has since been copied and widely shared online and on social media, where users have not failed to disappoint with their comments.

"Olaf just f---ing died," wrote one.

"We have Olaf down, I repeat, Olaf is down," wrote another.

Many suggested the video will soon become a widely used meme or gif on social media.

There were also plenty of funny comments. "When I realise I am oversharing a little too much," wrote one.

"Me: This edible ain't s--t. Me 15 minutes later," wrote another.

Others praised Olaf's comic genius. "The natural comedic timing of this is the best evidence I've ever seen for God exisiting," wrote one. "There isn't a funnier way he could've fallen over," said another.

Companies even got in on the act.

Airline Ryanair shared the video with the comment, "Passengers seeing the bag sizer".

In good news, videos reportedly showing the same animatronic Olaf on a boat in Disneyland have since emerged, with many breathing a sigh of relief that he was OK.
