US couple gets a 'redo' after first wedding was ridiculed on social media

A couple from Detroit were dismayed after their wedding went viral on social media – for all the wrong reasons.

Three weeks ago, Laquint and Janae Rhodes posted photos from their happy day on Facebook to share the experience with their family and friends.

The photos, of a ceremony out the front of their Detroit house, were unfairly criticised by Facebook users. "What in the Detroit wedding is this," someone said.

"We were hurt, we were confused, we were sad," Janae told FOX News of the response.

Little did the harsh commenters know, the Rhodes' six-year-old daughter had been admitted to the hospital that night, leaving the couple in a state of distress.

"For about a week or two straight it was all guilt, a ball of emotions, but not happy, we couldn’t really be happy," the new bride said.

Getting wind of the internet jeer, local radio host Randi Rossario decided to throw the couple a wedding 'redo'.

"I can imagine going viral for something bad and negative and then have that other personal blow," the Oh So Radio host said. "I just felt like I wanted to help them."

Local businesses also rallied together to donate their services to the reception. The Rhodes couple were over the moon, saying they were "appreciative, thankful, grateful" for the gesture.

"Oh my God… The last week we’ve been smiling non-stop, like a kid before Christmas, a kid on the first day of school that’s the best way to describe our emotions today," Janae said.

On top of all this, they were also gifted a honeymoon to Montego Bay and their six-year-old daughter is back in full health.

A fairytale ending the couple truly deserved.
