He Said She Said: Ben Fordham shares his most epic gift-giving fail with wife Jodie
Ben Fordham has has admitted he doesn't always know what to buy his wife Jodie Speers, sharing his most epic gift-giving fail to date.
The 2GB radio host explains on the latest episode of He Said She Said with Shelly Horton that he and Speers tend to suggest gift ideas to each other, but sometimes they'll brave it and choose a surprise.
This doesn't always go to plan, with one particular gift a few years ago failing to impress his spouse.
Fordham recalled visiting a building site with the couple's three children and allowing them to spray-paint parts of the building, including an old toilet.

He then decided to bring the toilet – which by then featured plenty of their children's artwork – home to Speers as a surprise, promising a "one-of-a-kind" gift.
"Jodie didn't like it, and so she said, 'Get it out of the house,'" he recalled.
It stayed in the "corner of the backyard for about a year" before Fordham disposed of it.
"I thought she'd think it was cute, it was painted by her children, her flesh and blood!" he explained.

Horton said this was "possibly one of the worst presents I've ever heard of."
Fordham explained he and Speers usually "tip each other off" about gifts they want.
The Ben Fordham Live host admitted he uses a cuddle pillow, which has recently been losing a bit of it's "oomph."
"Cause I've got Jodie to cuddle, but she doesn't always want to be cuddled," he confessed (before adding Speers doesn't give him permission to discuss their private life on He Said She Said, either).

Suffice to say, that would be an ideal next gift for the sleepy radio host.
"Because I know that's something that I really want and need, and I think the last time I said, 'There's something I really want' was the thing you put your toiletries in when you go away," he said.
Previously he had been using a plastic bag for his toiletries.

When it comes to her relationship with husband Darren Robinson, Horton said they would normally suggest gifts to each other but opted for surprises this past Christmas.

While Horton's plan to replace Robinson's lost wedding ring didn't eventuate in time, he surprised her with a hot air balloon ride.
"I've never been on one and I've always wanted to do it," she explained, adding that due to this success, she trusts her husband to surprise her with a gift for her upcoming 50th birthday.
Both hosts agreed "experiences" are excellent gifts for couples in long-term relationships who already have "everything."
Fordham said he has thought of surprising Speers with a holiday, though upon further thought, considering they are both working and have three children, this may not be received as well as he intended.

When the couple welcomed their first child, Fordham surprised Speers with a holiday for her to take with a friend at any stage.
"And she's never taken it," he said, three children later.
Fordham offered to look after them while she jets off, but she is yet to take him up on it.
