Brittany Higgins announces engagement to boyfriend David Sharaz

Brittany Higgins has started 2023 with some happy news.

The former political advisor announced her engagement to boyfriend, David Sharaz, via social media on New Year's Day, sharing photos of the proposal and ring.

"So lucky to be spending a lifetime with you @davidsharaz," the 28-year-old wrote alongside a heart and ring emoji.

Sharaz also shared a selection of photos of the special moment nd revealed how he popped the question - with a twist on a quote from the Hugh Grant movie Notting Hill.

"'I'm just a guy, kneeling in front of a girl, asking her to marry him," he said.

"I didn't want to enter another year without you knowing that I want to spent all my years with you @brittanyhiggins.

"I'm the luckiest guy in the world."

The couple were inundated with messages of congratulations after their engagement at Byron Bay's famous lighthouse.

Photos show the stairs up to the viewing platform lined with candles and rose petals and Higgins was presented with a bouquet of red roses before Sharaz dropped to one knee.

He presented his love with a gold six-claw diamond solitaire ring, with a close up of the sparkler shown on Brittany's Instagram.

The happy news comes after an intense year for the couple.

Sharaz was by Higgins's side during a trial against Higgins' former colleague whom she accused of rape.

The original trial was aborted due to juror misconduct before the case was dropped in early December over concerns for Higgins's mental health.
