US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams 'fake nude photo'

US politician and activist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has ‏slammed what she calls 'right-wing media sites' on Wednesday for publishing a fake nude photo that claimed to show her in a bathtub.

"For those out of the loop, Republicans began to circulate a fake nude photo of me," the freshman congresswoman writes on Twitter.

"Completely disgusting behaviour from conservative outlets."

The image shows a young woman's legs soaking in a bathtub alongside a vape pen. It was circulated on Reddit forums before making its way onto online news outlets.

The image was labelled 'Ocasio Cortez' on Reddit, however it was later revealed the image was of Sydney Leathers, best known as the 'sexting' partner of disgraced politician Anthony Weiner.

Leathers spoke out publicly to debunk the rumour the photo was of Ocasio-Cortez, telling The Post the photo is three years old and had been deleted off her Instagram. 

"Next time someone wants to use one of my photos to harm a politician can we at least make sure it's a conservative?" she writes.

Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Party and has been the US Representative for New York's 14th congressional district since January 3, 2019.

Before running for US Congress, the 29-year-old was a community organiser who worked in the Bronx as an educational director.

She is the youngest woman to serve in Congress in the history of the United States.
