Former NRL player Alex McKinnon and partner Lily Malone announce their engagement

Alex McKinnon has once again proved that Paris really is the city of love. 

The former NRL star, 33, proposed to his partner, Lily Malone, during a trip to France, with her making the announcement on Instagram.

Alongside a carousel of photos flashing her new rock, the 23-year-old captioned the post simply, "28.10" and added the emoji of a ring.

The couple posed for snaps in front of some of the famous landmarks from the side, like outside the Louvre Museum. 

In one snap McKinnon held onto Malone's left hand while they looked lovingly at each other, and in another she sat on his lap, flashing her new rock as she leaned in for a kiss. 

Malone also shared a couple of close-up shots of the ring, which features a large diamond on a gold band.

In another photo, taken during the daytime, Malone stood outside the Louvre again, this time proudly showing off her new sparkler for the camera. 

The joint post has been flooded with congratulatory messages from friends and family. 

"To say we are excited is an understatement you two are very special we are so happy for you and welcome 🤗 you into our family Alex," read one comment from someone in Malone's family. 

Someone else joked about the stunning ring and commented, "Well, we know where one of the louvre heist diamonds ended up 💍 🤣 congratulations".

It was first revealed that the couple were together last year. 

McKinnon, who is a quadriplegic after an on-field footy accident, and Malone posted a photo together on social media with their arms around each other in March 2024. 

He was the first one to share the picture, and she followed suit, sharing the same one on her own Instagram with the addition of a love heart emoji. 

The engagement news for McKinnon comes after he split from his ex-wife Teigan Power in January 2022 after five years of marriage. 

During that time the couple welcomed three children together and at the time of their marriage ending both confirmed that things were amicable and they were going to co-parent their children together. 

Power also has a new partner, Jake Nelson, and they recently welcomed their first child together, a son named Wyatt.
