Abandoned baby found by man in woods in US

A newborn baby has been founded naked and abandoned in a wooded area in Maryland in the US.

The female infant was discovered when she was only hour old.

A man was walking nearby when he heard the sound of a baby crying coming from the woods. He went to investigate and found the baby, handing her in to police.

"The baby is possibly Hispanic and, according to medical personnel at the hospital, was born a few hours before she was found," Montgomery County Police said.

She is in a stable condition.

Sergeant Rebecca Innocenti told WJLA-TV it was "fortunate" the baby was found.

"We were very fortunate that that man was walking down that sidewalk," Sergeant Innocenti said.

Police are appealing to the public for help finding the child's parents.
