Aerobatics squadron accidentally interrupts yodelling contest

Switzerland's Defence Ministry has formally apologised for an aerobatics squadron buzzing a small town by accident.
The Patrouille Suisse were intended to fly over the town of Langenbruck to honour a late aviation pioneer.
Instead their powerful jets roared over the town of Mumliswil, drowning out the local yodelling contest.

The mix-up occurred because the squadron's F-5E Tiger II jets are not equipped with GPS, and the pilots mistook the tent hosting the yodelling competition for the tent hosting an event to honour Oskar Bider.
Bider was a pioneering pilot who crossed the Alps in both directions in 1913 at the age of 22.
Today's event was to mark the centenary of Bider's death.
Bider was born in Langenbruck, where the fly-by was meant to take place.

Attendees at the yodelling contest were reportedly pleased by the surprise interruption.
Which may well be testament to just how terrible it is to listen to somebody yodelling.
