3 things to watch this weekend: Elle Fanning's disturbingly powerful performance as Michelle Carter

The Girl From Plainville

What: The Girl from Plainville explores the events leading to the death of Conrad Roy III and his girlfriend Michelle Carter's conviction for involuntary manslaughter.

Starring Elle Fanning, The Girl From Plainville is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter's unprecedented "texting suicide" case. Based on the Esquire article of the same name by Jesse Barron, the limited series explores Carter's relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and, later, her conviction.

The series will examine the impact technology, social media and pop culture have on young people, their mental health and how it can be truly damaging.

Killing It

What: Fans of The Office (US) will recognise Craig Robinson in Killing It, a new sitcom from the creators of Parks and Recreation. The series also stars Australian comedian Claudia O'Doherty who you might recognise from her roles in SMILF and Sarah's Channel.

Killing it is a comedy about class, capitalism and one man's quest to achieve the American dream.

Co-showrunners, writers and executive producers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici said, "We love all the ambitious, challenging, thematically-rich series that populate the current peak-TV landscape. We also love jokes.

"So, we tried to make a show that could deliver both. We wanted Killing It to explore America's quasi-religious obsession with entrepreneurship and wealth, and we also wanted it to be funny. Really, really funny. Plus, we wanted it to have big snakes."

The show is also about hunting really big snakes. You'll have to watch to find out why.

When: Stream the first episode now. The final nine episodes will be released all at once on 15 April.

Saving Hope

What: Saving Hope follows Dr Alex Reid (Erica Durance), a doctor whose fiancé, Dr Charles Harris (Michael Shanks), is in a coma after a car accident while on the way to their wedding.

The show follows the life of Charlie in his comatose state and Alex dealing with her patients, all the while hoping that he will survive.

Dr Reid is the Chief Surgical Resident while Dr Harris was the Chief of Surgery until his accident.

Supernatural elements in the are what separates it from countless other medical shows like Grey's Anatomy, New Amsterdam and ER.

The series stars Durance who played Lois Lane on the teen series, Smallville, is brilliant in this role. Sci-fi fans will also recognise Shanks from his decade-long role in the Stargate TV franchise.
