Sam Worthington and Phoebe Tonkin to star in Stan Original Film Transfusion

Sam Worthington's latest project has been revealed.

Stan today announced the Australian actor has been cast in the new Stan Original Film Transfusion, which started filming in Sydney earlier this week.

Worthington plays Ryan Logan in the thriller, a former Special Forces operative who is dealing with the loss of his wife and then thrown into the criminal underworld to save his only son from being taken from him.

Phoebe Tonkin, who appeared in Stan's Original Series Bloom, stars as Ryan's wife Justine, and Aussie actor Matt Nable (The Dry) plays Johnny. Nable also wrote the script and will direct Transfusion, marking his directorial debut.

"The opportunity to write, direct and co-star alongside talent such as Sam and Phoebe is phenomenal," Nable said.

Worthington returned to Australia in January with his wife, Lara Worthington, and their three young sons.

The 44-year-old actor performed in the Sydney Theatre Company production Appropriate from March to April.

Tonkin, a good friend of the Worthingtons, also flew back recently in time to quarantine ahead of production.

She shared the news of Transfusion on her Instagram account with the caption, "Stoked."

The Stan Original Film Transfusion will premiere on Stan and in cinemas in 2022.
