The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air takes a dark turn in reboot of iconic '90s series
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was one of the most beloved sitcoms of the '90s and now it's returning to our screens like we've never seen before.
The first look at the highly anticipated reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has dropped, giving fans a taste of the new-look drama.

The series takes a step back from its sitcom roots to become an hour-long drama, reimagining the initial story with a darker vibe. Let's just say we'd be surprised to see Carlton do his famous dance in this version.
We still follow a teen's complicated journey after moving in with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air to escape a fight that broke out on a basketball court in his home town of West Philadelphia.
Bel-Air's cast is led by newcomer Jabari Banks, who will play Will, alongside Adrian Holmes as his uncle Philip Banks, Olly Sholotan as Carlton and Coco Jones as Hilary.

Butler Geoffrey is also back, this time played by British star Jimmy Akingbola, but he is far from being a comedy character.
In the trailer, we see Will arriving at his luxurious new home, where he catches up with his cousins Hilary, Ashley and Carlton.
We learn the reason Will was sent to Bel-Air — his famous "one little fight".
Will asks Geoffrey if he knows the reason he's in Bel-Air.
"Scrap on the ball court, things got nasty, and now some bad man from Philly wants to deal with you," Geoffrey replies.

We are then shown glimpses of Will trying to fit in at his new private school, with his family asking him to be patient when it comes to trying to turn his life around.
While Will Smith doesn't star in the series, he executive produces the show after being inspired by a fan-made version of the original comedy in 2019.
"This is the first time that I heard something, I was like, 'Yo, that's an idea that is brilliant'," Will said a video on his YouTube channel.
