The first look at the official Bluey Movie is here, and wow... people are not happy
When it comes to beloved children’s characters, Bluey and Bingo are right up there.
The Aussie show only ran for three seasons and Disney recently acquired the rights, revealing over the weekend during the D23 fan event that a movie is coming… and the first-look trailer has left fans absolutely livid.

The Bluey Movie trailer has now been shared online following the first look at D23, and gives fans a hint of what they can expect.
It starts with a red balloon and giggles from Blue Heeler sisters Bluey and Bingo as they play a game of ‘Keepy Uppy’.
But it’s our first glimpse of the iconic duo that has people ready to riot.

The fuzzy, warm, detailed characters are a far cry from what kids – and parents – have come to know and love since the show hit screens in 2018.
The comments on Disney’s first trailer are filled with people furious about the change, and plenty begging the animation giant to change it back.
“Why did they do that to Bluey?” commented one person.
Another wrote, “The 2D animation of Bluey is a fundamental part of its identity. The bold outlines, flat colors, little imperfections, simple backgrounds, and the way the characters move make Bluey feel almost like a children’s book brought to life.”

“Why did you change the animation that made Bluey… Bluey?” questioned another.
And it’s not just the grown-ups, as one parent commented: “My kids said ‘Why did they do that? It doesn’t even look like them.’”
“Hate to say it but Disney just ruined it with their 3D animation. The OG Bluey was better,” wrote another person.
As a mum of a three-year-old, I’ve seen my fair share of Bluey.
By that, I mean we’ve had months where it was the only thing on the TV, I could recite most episodes off by heart and have cried through some – hello, Baby Race – and I have to say, I agree with a lot of the comments.

The modern animation feels like it’s taken some of the essence of Bluey away.
The simple cartoon design is part of what makes the show so unique and special, but the movie proves Disney is taking it in a step in a new direction.
Now, not all the feedback is negative. Some people were vocal about understanding that now Disney has Bluey, this was bound to happen.
“I understand why they did it, but I really wish they hadn’t,” one person commented.
“The entire charm of Bluey is the 2-D animation, the sweet messaging and while you’ve kept the sweet messaging, it feels more like Disney Junior than a full-length feature Disney Bluey production.”
And for some parents, the idea Bluey is finally coming to the big screen is enough on its own to celebrate.
“Even if it’s 3D animated, I’m SOOOOO excited!!!💙🧡,” replied one person.
Thankfully, fans big and small have got plenty of time to wrap their heads around the change, with The Bluey Movie set to hit cinemas on August 6, 2027.
