Tent spiders spin mystical Harry Potter-style webs in NSW park

Hundreds of spiders webs have appeared in a NSW park, creating a mystical scene straight out of a Harry Potter movie.

Tent spiders created the unusual ‘dome webs’ suspended across long grass in Port Macquarie’s Kooloonbung Creek Nature Reserve.

Nature reserve volunteer Rix Moir told 9Pickle the intricate webs are a breathtaking sight.

“They cover about 50m by 50m,” he said.

“It’s quite a feature really - people are quite stunned when they see them.

“You’re best to see them early in the morning when they’ve got the dew on.”

According to Queensland Museum, there are three kinds of tent spider - the dome tent, Russian tent and scoop web spiders.

The female spiders lay in wait for prey at the top of the webbed dome, which can reach up to 60cm across.

The Kooloonbung Creek Nature Reserve is a wildlife haven, home to koala and swamp wallaby.
