What is Rizzoli & Isles about?
Rizzoli & Isles is based on a series of novels by author Tess Gerritsen. It follows detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Dr Maura Isles, who join forces to solve crimes in Boston.
Season 1 kicks off with a murder similar to that of a notorious killer who traumatised Jane. When Jane finds out he has escaped prison, she moves in with Maura until they solve the crime.

Who is in the cast of Rizzoli & Isles?
Law & Order star Angie Harmon played Jane, while Maura is portrayed by Sasha Alexander from NCIS and Dawson's Creek.
Rizzoli's younger brother Frankie, also a detective, is played by Christmas at Holly Lodge actor Jordan Bridges, and The Sopranos star Lorraine Bracco is Rizzoli's interfering mother Angela. The late-Lee Thompson Young, a Disney child star, played Rizzoli's partner Barry, while her former partner was portrayed by veteran actor Bruce McGill.
Blue Bloods star and former New Kids on the Block member, Donnie Wahlberg, has a guest role as Sergeant Joey Grant, who becomes Rizzoli's boss, and Something Borrowed actor Colin Egglesfield has a recurring role as Jane's other brother Tommy.

What sort of drama can I expect from Rizzoli & Isles?
Rizzoli & Isles features a new murder to solve each episode, with some of the crimes veering on the bizarre or unexpected.
The series was ahead of its time, with two powerhouse women solving the crimes together. Not only did Jane and Maura work well as a team, they were supportive of each other and close friends.

This was not a common thread in TV shows at the time Rizzoli & Isles was on air. Fans enjoyed seeing this relationship and, due to the incredible chemistry between Harmon and Alexander, thought the characters would eventually end up in a romantic relationship.
"Jane and Maura. That's the formula," Alexander told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We've rarely seen two women at the helm who get along and support each other. We're friends.
"I think that people connect with that relationship. It made them feel good to see women in this dark crime world navigate personal lives along with solving crimes."

Will there be a reboot of Rizzoli & Isles?
It seems the door is always open for Rizzoli & Isles to make a return to TV. When the drama ended in 2016, showrunner Jan Nash seemed positive about the prospect of bringing the show back in some shape or form.
"Of course! If everybody wanted to do that," she told TVGuide. "Honestly, this is such a wonderful group of people, you'd never turn down a chance to work with them again. So, yeah, if somebody wanted to make a movie or whatever, I would totally be open to it.
