Raccoon family falls through ceiling into living room

Normally police ask questions with a clear answer.

Do you know how fast you were going?

Have you had anything to drink tonight?

How long has this dead body been in your wardrobe?

But the police in the Michigan city of Albion don't mind dropping a thought-provoking question on their Facebook page.

"What do you do when you’re sitting in your living room and a raccoon and her 5 babies suddenly fall through the ceiling onto your couch?" the Albion police department asked.

It's a headscratcher, because these sorts of hypotheticals are reliant on how you feel about wild animals with the energy of Jack Russells and the aloofness of your in-laws' cat.

But it wasn't a hypothetical for one resident of the small town, who was enjoying a quiet night in when a raccoon family dropped in with the intensity of the 82^nd Airborne Division on Sainte Mere Eglise (read your history books, kids).

Police and firefighters were both called, because this isn't really an instance where you worry about jurisdiction.

And bless them, they decided to film the mayhem and put it up on Facebook.

They were able to pluck up the five babies easily enough.

But as for the mother raccoon.

Mama bit the glove of a responder before hiding in a closet. Emergency services had to use a dog catcher pole to wrangle the furry intruder.

Eventually all the critters were released back into the wild. No people or animals were hurt.
