VIDEO: Volunteer becomes legend for failed attempt to kick on flooded field

If you're going to be proved wrong, you may as we prove yourself wrong in spectacular fashion in front of a stadium full of people.

Because then you become a legit internet sensation.

That's the trajectory of a volunteer groundskeeper, who is known only as Wilhelmina.

She was apparently trying to prove the soccer pitch at the second quarter-final of the European Women's Championship was fit for play.

Long story short: it was not.

Slightly longer story: the groundskeeper become the toast of the internet after footage of the magnificent fail was posted to Twitter on Sunday.

And it's excellent viewing.

She didn't just slip over, but slipped over in slow-mo action replay, which is usually reserved for the football stars.

There were just so many angles:

And just like that a new star was born.

Because this is not just about failure, but about being able to laugh in the face of it.

Bravo.

This magnificent slip was right before Germany and Denmark were due to take to the field, however a heavy downpour at the Sparta Stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands put a literal dampener on things.

So much water came down that people were actually bucketing it out.

Yeeeeah, things were damp.

Meanwhile, it is nice to know how groundskeepers go about clearing a pitch of water.

It's kind of a mix between a squeegee, a broom and something you'd expect to see backup dancers doing in Mary Poppins.
