VIDEO: Queensland bloke rescues silly roo who fell into an irrigation trench

Here's an Australian story that will put a patriotic tear in your sun-damaged eye.

It's a simple story about a bloke, a kangaroo and the Aussie value of mateship set in the vast farmland our wide, brown country is known for.

Fritz White, who works in irrigation in Goondiwindi, southwest Queensland, came across a kanga in a jam.

He reckons the young fella might have been lying low from roo shooters, and got stuck.

So White decided to lend a hand.

He grabbed both paws and slowly yanked the roo loose before chucking him to its freedom.

The roo stands around awkwardly not knowing how to say "cheers mate" until White appears to give it "that's gold", which seems to be a universal code that transcends species.

The roo then buggers off into the distance and all is right with the world again.

Thankfully White's workmates were on hand to film the valiant rescue, which obvs went viral pretty much instantly. 

In less than 24 hours, it had clocked up more than 250,000 views.

The list of people tagging their mates in the comments section to share this iconic tale is growing by the minute.

We hope White switched his phone to silent, because that thing will be going off like a frog in a sock right about now.
