‘Fire breathing alpacas’ mesmerise the internet

When someone asks you if you “wanna see something cool?” you generally brace yourself for something that’s going to be the opposite of cool.

This is especially true if it’s coming from that dull guy at work who smells like cheese.

We’ve all had to sit through some drongo showing us some lame thing on their phone.

And sometimes it's hard to be polite.

But we promise you, this is cool.

On the scale from “meh” to “holy snapping dog crap!”, it’s at least a solid “huh, neat”.

However, that doesn’t mean it's not cool.

We mean, this headline had “fire breathing alpacas” in it.

This comes to you from Rusty Stars Alpacas, a ranch in Iowa, in the Midwest of the US.

The video was shot in the early morning, just as the sun was rising.

It was shared on the farm's Facebook page, clocking up more than 1.3 million views since the beginning of January.

People were loving it.

But some questioned whether this wasn’t just some kind of special effects wizardry.

However, the farmer assured Facebookers it was simply a case of being at the right place at the right time with a smartphone.

The temperature was -7 degrees, meaning the alpacas' hot breath was turning to tiny ice particles in the cold.

And the farmer was standing at juuuust the right angle to catch the golden morning light illuminating their breath.

So while what he filmed certainly looked like fire breathing, it was actually the opposite.

Neat, huh?
