What is Escape to The Chateau?

Escape to the Chateau is a documentary series that follows the story of Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree, along with their children as they buy, renovate and redecorate an abandoned 19th-century chateau.

The property, named Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France, is the focus of the series, along with their juggle to balance growing their business with family.

At the beginning of the series the couple snapped up the property for a bargain price of £280,000 (approx. $508,799). At the time the vacant property had no electricity, heating or running water — making it an incredibly huge project to take on.

The chateau boasts 45 rooms and a moat, while the property spans over 12 acres.

Dick Strawbridge: A former Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army, Dick Strawbridge is no stranger to television. He has appeared in several shows in the past like It's Not Easy Being Green, Scrapheap Challenge and Dirty Rotten Survival. But in Escape to the Chateau it's his experience in both engineering and food that is highlighted. Obviously his experience is a big part of the show as he tackles projects both within the chateau and surrounding areas through the seasons.

Angel Adoree: She runs a hospitality business called The Vintage Patisserie and provides a creative factor and flair for the show. She adds her style and interior decoration skill to the chateau as well as sharing in the interest in hospitality and entertaining to make their guests' memories their ones to last. Adoree was born Angela Newman but changed her name. She also has two children with Dick who also feature in the series.
