VIDEO: Dad refuses to let a fear of heights spoil his Irish holiday

Never let fear stop you from living your life, guys.

That's the inspirational message we can take away from this video of a dad crawling on his stomach to peek over the edge of a cliff in Ireland.

You might not think there's anything particularly noble about a grown man crawling in fear, but look at it from another way.

This dad is terrified of heights.

But he wasn't about to let this fear keep him from enjoying his holiday in Ireland, particularly when checking out the cliffs at Dun Aonghasa, in the Aran Islands .

He wanted to peek over the edge of the iconic cliff face, and he refused to let his phobia bring him to his knees and stop him.

Instead, his fear just slowed him down and brought him to his belly.

Creeping slowly to the ledge, he was edging centimetre-by-painful-centimetre to conquering his fears.

And that makes him a bit of an inspiration.

The clip, which was uploaded by a YouTuber who goes by the name of Alex, was posted online over the weekend.

It has since clocked up nearly 500,000 views and earned this brave dad some serious respect.

"I can tell you, confronting a phobia takes a lot of guts. He deserves a lot of credit," YouTuber mundotaku said.

Being intensely afraid of heights is called acrophobia, and is regarded as one of the more common phobias.

There are theories suggesting the phobia is an evolutionary, genetic fear, which makes sense considering that not mucking around on the ledges of great heights leads to less of a chance someone falling to their death.

It's also believed to be linked to proprioception, which is your brain’s unconscious sense of where your body is in relation to space as well as having dreams of flying – like an extra in Peter Pan.

Regardless of the cause, a fear of heights is considered as a legit phobia, and a fairly rational one at that, making this dad's attempt to overcome it a serious act of determination.

Good for you, mate.
