Cross country runner faceplants across finish line

Rarely have moments of sweet victory been so underdone by such a poor celebration.

French runner Jimmy Gressier was cruising to victory in the SPAR European Cross Country Championships Under-23 men’s race in The Netherlands. Cruising.

Looking comfortable and in control – and to put the icing on the cake of a glorious victory - he’s gone the slide across the finish line.

And in fairness to Jimmy, the conditions do look like he should have slid effortlessly to the top of the podium.

But alas, the faceplant  … and Twitter infamy.
