Celebrity pandemonium in Sydney's CBD as two very different star-studded events collide on the same street

It was a complete celebrity gridlock in the Sydney CBD on Thursday night, as two of the year's biggest star-studded events collided on the very same street.

I've been a journalist for more than a decade and have (gratefully) attended plenty of red carpet events in my time; but I've never seen anything like this before.

And I mean that in the best way possible, of course.

I had arrived to watch the Wuthering Heights premiere, which saw some of biggest stars in the world descend upon Sydney's CDB, including Margot Robbie Jacob Elordi and even Hailey Bieber.

Queues snaked around the block as fans leaned into the 'period-drama' brief, turning the sidewalk into a makeshift runway of corsets, intricate lace, and dramatic veils.

The star-studded event was held at Sydney's iconic State Theatre – which in my opinion, was the most perfect setting for the dark and romantic gothic film with its heritage and art deco interiors.

The whole street was abuzz and cheers erupted everytime a van would pull up, with fans thinking a star was popping out.

Other Aussie stars such as Sarah Snook, supermodel Gemma Ward, Tammy Hembrow, Kate Waterhouse, Jessica Rowe, and even Liam Hemsworth's model fiancée Gabriella Brooks also graced the red carpet with their presence.

It was sheer pandemonium.

But surprisingly, it wasn't the only event people were queuing for.

Just next door, at beauty giant Mecca's flagship Sydney store, fans were lining up for a whole other reason.

They were there to get their hands on bilionaire beauty guru Hailey Bieber's new Rhode products, which just launched in Mecca stores in Australia for the very first time.

I kid you not, fans were wrapped around the block on either side, the city buzzing with excitement at the events and the luck of having some major stars in town.

Some keen shoppers had queued from 5am to get their hands on the cosmetics, and were in total disbelief as they found themselves standing smack-bang in the middle of a red-carpet arrival.

The enthusiasm and high spirits in the air spread thick and fast, as almost everyone had smiles on their faces one what would usually be a dull Thursday night.

Even I was taken aback, and incredibly excited, for the evening.

The atmosphere was electric.

Hailey is in town to help launch her products into Mecca, after she sold the line for a stunningly impressive $1 billion.

She's also in town this week for the Vogue Forces of Fashion event.

On Thursday, ahead of making a surprise visit at the Wuthering Heights premiere, she stepped out at Mecca George Street for her product line and thrilled fans, sending them into a frenzy.

And luckily, I got to watch the film, and without giving away too many spoilers, it's a must-see; filled with intense passion and romance, incredible costuming and set design and shocks and surprises.

The visuals of the film, based on the gothic novel by Emily Brontë and directed by Emerald Fennell, impressed me most of all.

It has an arty vibe, almost chanelling 2006's Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola.

But most of all, I loved seeing two of Australia's biggest stars lead one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year.

Between the moody romance of the Wuthering Heights premiere and the high-fashion buzz of Hailey Bieber's Rhode launch, Sydney truly turned it on.

It's rare to see two of Hollywood's biggest heavyweights – plus a global style icon –sharing the same city block, but on Thursday night, Sydney proved it's more than capable of handling that much star power.
