West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler wasn't invited to Oscars despite film's seven nominations
Rachel Zegler, the star of Academy Award-nominated film West Side Story, claims she wasn't invited to the Oscars ceremony next week.
Despite the critically-acclaimed film being nominated across seven categories at the Academy Awards, Zegler — who plays Maria in the Steven Spielberg blockbuster — says she won't be attending.
The US actress, 20, responded to a fan question about what she will be wearing to the iconic event with a bleak admission: "I'm not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriend's flannel."

After her response sparked outrage, Zegler said she didn't understand the decision to exclude her from the Oscars.
"Idk y'all i have tried it all but it doesn't seem to be happening. I will root for West Side Story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago," she continued.
"I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that's how it goes sometimes, I guess."
