Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson debuts a new look at Venice International Film Festival

Dwayne Johnson is looking a little different these days.

The famed WWE star turned actor has stepped out at the Venice International Film Festival debuting a new look.

The star appeared to have slimmed down in the months since filming wrapped on his upcoming movie The Smashing Machine.

In the film, directed and written by Benny Safdie of Uncut Gems, Johnson stars as MMA fighter Mark Kerr, so he had to return to his WWE physique to take on the role.

"This transformation was something I was really hungry to do," he told The Hollywood Reporter at the film's premiere.

"I had been very fortunate to have the career that I've had over the years and to make the films that I've made, but there was just a voice inside of me, a little voice that said, 'Well, what if I could do more – I want to do more and what does that look like?'"

The film follows the real-life story of Kerr, who was a pioneer in mixed martial arts. Its premiere received a 15-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.

Johnson and Safdie attended the premiere alongside Emily Blunt – who stars as Kerr's wife at the time, Dawn – and Kerr himself.

In a video shared to socials by Variety co-editor-in-chief, Ramin Setoodeh, Johnson was seen wiping tears from his face as the audience applauded the film.

In a separate video, Safdie was also seen crying during the standing ovation.

"This was the most emotion we've [seen] on the Lido since Brendan Fraser launched his Oscar campaign here four years ago for The Whale," Setoodeh captioned the post.

While the film has made its official premiere in Venice, Aussie audiences will have to wait until October 2 for the film to hit cinemas.
