Tom Cruise set to make stunt-filled appearance Olympics Closing Ceremony

Tom Cruise is expected to play an exciting role in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony.

The Mission Impossible star has reportedly been seen filming stunts in Los Angeles for a pre-taped segment for the Sunday, August 11 ceremony.

Cruise's part in the Ceremony is for the traditional handover of the Olympic flag to the next host nation, which will be LA in 2028.

One of the stunts Cruise has filmed is skydiving down to the Hollywood sign which, according to paparazzi photos showing Cruise standing on one of the letters, was filmed in March.

It's believed the segment will involve Cruise repelling from Stade de France onto the field carrying the Olympic flag.

Then viewers watching on TV will see the pre-recorded stunt play out as Cruise flies in a plane from Paris to LA.

Once Cruise is back on US soil he'll pass the flag to an Olympian who'll then hand it to another athlete as they move around the city.

Cruise has been a fixture in the stands at Olympic Games Paris 2024 watching the swimming and gymnastics.

The 62-year-old was there as fellow-American Simone Biles as she flipped her way to yet another gold medal in the qualifying round of the women's artistic gymnastics team event.

Cruise seemed mesmerised as the nine-time Olympic medallist performed her routine, his eyebrows darting up at each epic moment.

When she was done he gave her an enthusiastic applause and, though already on his feet, joined the crowd as they gave Biles a standing ovation.

"It's awesome. Great stories, great athletes. It's incredible what they have to do, the sense of accomplishment," he told Reuters of what he'd seen at Paris 2024.

The Closing Ceremony won't be Cruise's first involvement with the Olympics.

The Top Gun star had the honour of carrying the Olympic torch in LA in 2004 ahead of the Athens games.

When he arrived in Dodgers Stadium 20 years ago, he passed on the flame to gold-medal winning Olympian Janet Evans.
