<i>The Bachelor</i> US winner Shayne Lamas in coma after losing baby

Former winner of The Bachelor US Shayne Lamas is in a coma after severe complications with her pregnancy.

The reality star was 16 weeks along when she was rushed to hospital after collapsing at her family home with husband Nik Richie on Sunday night.

Unfortunately, doctors determined that the 28-year-old was bleeding from her uterus, causing her to lose her baby during emergency surgery.

TMZ reports that "the situation was dire" and "doctors brought in specialists to figure out what was causing the bleeding".

Shayne is currently in a coma and not breathing on her own, although doctors are optimistic about her recovery.

The Bachelor contestant won the 12th season of the show and was engaged to Matt Grant for two months before splitting in 2008. Two years later, she eloped with blogger husband Nik only hours after meeting him.
