Taylor Swift breaks her silence on Travis Kelce romance: 'We're showing up for each other'

Taylor Swift has broken her silence on her relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce.

The singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star have been spotted together for months, and while Kelce has mentioned the singer on his podcast, Swift has remained tight lipped on the romance - until now.

The 33-year-old spoke about their relationship with TIME magazine, as she was named its 2023 Person of the Year.

She clarified that the couple got together much before she made her first appearance at one of the 34-year-old's games, saying he'd "put me on blast on his podcast" and they started "hanging out right after that".

"We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I'm grateful for, because we got to get to know each other," she said.

"By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

Swift said being so public about their budding romance was because there was nothing to hide.

"When you say a relationship is public, that means I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told the publication.

"The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone. And we're just proud of each other."

The singer credited a dark time life for her newfound zest for life.

Swift said she was publicly "cancelled within an inch of my life and sanity" and locked herself "away in my house for a lot of years – I'll never get that time back".

"Life is short. Have adventures," she said.

This very public relationship comes after the end earlier this year of her six-year relationship with notoriously private actor Joe Alwyn.

They were reported to have gone their separate ways in March or April, though neither ever spoke publicly about it.

Swift's publicist did recently wade in on another rumour about her relationship with Alwyn, denying the pair ever got "secretly married", which had been widely reported.

Kelce was spotted attending a Swift concert in his hometown back in July, when it's understood he left a friendship bracelet with his number for her.

While the pair didn't meet that night, it prompted his shout out on his podcast with his brother Jason, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, which led to the singer getting in touch.

Fans were thrilled to see the 33-year-old singer flying in to watch Kelce's games despite her tour schedule, while the footballer was also seen flying out to catch Swift's shows when not on the field.

While she hadn't publicly discussed the relationship until now, last month Swift whipped fans into a frenzy when she changed some of her lyrics to reference the footballer.

It was the first time she'd mentioned him publicly.
